Description

Description

The Norma VERMINXTREME 243 Winchester 76gr cartridge is designed for varmint hunting.

  • Caliber: .243 Winchester (often referred to as .243 Win)
  • Bullet Weight: 76 grains (4.9 grams)
  • Ballistic Coefficient (G1): 0.147
  • Range: Suitable for medium-sized game
  • Wound Channel: Designed for rapid expansion
  • Penetration: Adequate for quick kills on smaller game.

The .243 Win was originally a wildcat cartridge developed by Warren Page in the early fifties. It involved necking down the .308 case to create a light deer rifle with the advantages of high-velocity .22-calibers for varmint hunting. Winchester later commercialized it in 1955. The .243 Win is popular worldwide due to its flat trajectory and mild recoil. However, its popularity for varmint hunting isn’t as widespread, despite its better wind-bucking capabilities compared to .22-caliber bullets. In Europe, legal restrictions limit its use for big game beyond roe deer. For varmint hunting, bullets in the 70-85 grain range work well, but for larger game, opt for 90-100 grain bullets. Keep in mind that the .243 Win isn’t suitable for elk hunting. Full metal jacketed bullets perform better for edible birds and foxes than equivalent .22-caliber bullets.
