The .308 Winchester cartridge was introduced by Winchester in 1952, shortly after the new NATO cartridge (7.62x51mm). It offers excellent accuracy potential and is favored by many target shooters. While it fits into short bolt-action rifles and delivers similar energy to the .30-06 with medium-weight bullets, it may be considered too light for the largest game species like big bears. Keep in mind that the .308 Winchester is not identical to the 7.62 NATO in all dimensions due to differences in tolerances, and some rifle chambers cannot handle military ammunition.

Additionally, there’s another variant called Norma Tac-308, which also features a 150-grain FMJ bullet. It’s brass-cased, boxer-primed, non-magnetic, and non-corrosive, making it suitable for range, target, and training purposes.

Whether you’re practicing at the range or honing your skills, the .308 Win remains a popular choice due to its long-range capabilities, high power, and accuracy. Happy shooting! 🎯🔫
